Infantry Tank Mk II Matilda II • US Army Ordnance Training and Heritage Center

Current Condition

Very poor. Missing (at least) tracks, drive wheels and main gun. Shows signs of heavy rust, despite the application of protective paint.

Vehicle History

Captured by the Germans in 1941-11 in North Africa, and used as a static defence in the Sidi Rezag-Halfaya pass. Was captured by the British in 1942-10 during the Battle of El Alamein. Shipped to USA for scrap iron in 1943, where it was donated to the Ordnance Museum in 1944.
