One of two M24 light tanks trialled in tropical conditions on Bougainville in 1945 on behalf of the British War Office Trials unit. Though they possessed good fire power they M24s lacked the required mobility in jungle vegetation. The two vehicles were retained in Australia at the Armoured Centre until 1955. Later one was traded to John Belfield and subsequently sold at auction in 2006 to another Australian collector. The other is on display at the RAAC Museum.
